Sperm whales are not common in Greenland waters, but they can occur, especially in West Greenland. They are more often seen in more southern areas, but males may migrate north to the ice edge of East Greenland.
Sperm whales are the largest toothed whales and can be recognized by their large, square heads. In Greenland, it is primarily males that are seen, as females are more often found in warmer waters.
